Speaking of On-Demand
My definition of TV is changing and I bet I’m not the only one.
11/09/08
I haven’t sat down in front of a TV in weeks, even months. But just tonight I got caught up on The Simpsons, watched a piece of 60 Minutes that Jason Fried had tweeted about and later I’ll probably watch a movie. I’m a fan of Prison Break, but hadn’t seen any of season 3 or 4 until last week. Netflix got me caught up on season 3 and Hulu on season 4.
My computer, with its large screen and virtually limitless on-demand (and on-my-schedule) programming has essentially replaced my TV for most personal viewing. In fact, it’s to the point that I get annoyed when something isn’t available to view, legally, on the internet. I doubt I’m the only one. I used to think I wanted a DVR, but I think I the computer might have surpassed even that flexibility.
Now, I know many people still want to watch programming on a TV, in their living room. But the natural changes in my own habits have really opened my eyes. Whoever can make this magic happen, with ease, on my actual television could be the next company to rule the living room. I just hope my broadband connection can keep up. So far it’s not looking too good…
