PUSH PULL

by Landis Fields

This short film is gorgeous. It follows Pete Billington, friend of filmmaker Landis Fields. The whole thing was shot on Canon SLR cameras: “The entire film was shot on 2 canon 7D’s (mostly at 60p for “slow-mo” flexibility later on while editing) and 1 Canon 5D at 30p which was conformed to a 24 frame timeline.” Crazy awesome.

Thanks to some snow the last couple days, we’re actually experiencing a white Christmas here in Colorado. I didn’t take this photo today, but it felt appropriate.

The photo itself is from the curving road up Lefthand Canyon, just north of Boulder, on the way to Ward (if you stay left) or Jamestown (if you veer right). Back when I used to be heavily into cycling it was a staple of many mountain ride routes.

From the dawn of humankind’s existence we’ve sought ways to make time stand still. In our quest for the fourth dimension we’ve dehydrated ourselves in sweat lodges, and ingested hallucinogenic plants. We’ve even fantasized about building machines that could take us backward through time. But nothing makes the clock tick more slowly than stationary cycling.

Bertelli Biciclette Assemblate

These bikes are beautiful! They’re simply works of art. If I bought one, I’m not even sure I could bring myself to ride it…

Art meets bike for Livestrong.

In case you’ve been hiding under a rock, cyclist Lance Armstrong is back out of retirement and riding professionally again. This time around though, he says he’s doing it exclusively for the exposure it gives to his cancer foundation, Livestrong.

As part of the fundraising efforts, several prominent artists were asked to decorate several LA bikes for the Tour de France. He’s riding each of them and then auctioning them off to raise money.

I love them all, but Shepard Fairey’s (featured above) is my favorite.

30-Sec Biker

My Current Desktop

30-Sec Biker

This might sound a bit conceited, but it takes a lot to get me to use someone else’s photo as my desktop background. This is my current laptop desktop. It’s a 30-second exposure taken by my friend Andrew Hyde as he followed a fellow fixie rider through the streets of Boulder. What a fantastic effect! Click through to his flickr account for the full image.

UPDATE: if you have a comment about the photo itself, be sure to click through to Andrew’s flickr account and leave it for him there.

Training in the Aspen area

Can’t embed this one because it’s on Facebook, but I’m posting to make a quick point: videos like these are what make social media fun. Lance Armstrong consistently uses social media well to connect with his fans. As one of those fans, I’m loving it – and, sadly, I haven’t been on a big regularly in a couple years.

KAWS Trek Madrone 6.9

custom, for Lance Armstrong

Lance Armstrong has probably had more bikes custom designed for himself than any other cyclist. He mentioned this latest one by KAWS on Twitter last week, but I think it was @jeffrey that pointed me toward this article with really good pictures of it.
