This is Maxine, my grandmother, my dad’s mother. I’ve always loved this photo I took of her on a trip back to Ohio in 2008 and I’m really excited that it was chosen to be part of Pictory’s latest showcase: Life Lessons.

A photo I took of my sister Laura last summer when we were visiting family in Ohio. We found a fun thrift store in Sandusky, OH.
My youngest sister, Brie, is a student at the Kansas City Art Institute. She is a brilliant artist and this is one of the costumes she designed for a class last semester. I love it. Not only the overall image, but the way it looks as she moves. So well done. I’m not biased at all.

On the process of coming into your own… and how those around you don’t always like that you’re discovering who you really are.
A worthy, albeit long, post from my sister. Sometimes when you realize what you’re passionate about, and start expressing it to those around you, they don’t get it. They don’t understand. But that doesn’t mean it’s not worth the hard work to figure out who you are and where you should be headed.
What I DO know friends, is that the journey of coming into your own, of recognizing your gifts without apology, and understanding the GOOD those gifts will do for world no-less, is a difficult, alienating and yes, intimidating process for those around you.
