Animal Trivia

by Jason Sweeney

I’m a big @sween fan on the Twitter. And his tumblr is excellent too, overall. More specifically, though, he has been collecting some of his captioned animal illustrations under the tag, Animal Trivia. They’re excellent.

Alan van Roemburg

I think I ran across Alan’s work because he followed me on Twitter. His stuff is beautiful – especially his marks and icon illustrations. I also love his simple, grid-tastic site.

The Ship and The Sea Artwork

Part 2

The Ship and The Sea Artwork

This is a followup post to the first half of the illustration from a few weeks ago.

My friends, The Autumn Film recently released their latest full-length album, The Ship and The Sea. I had the honor of putting together all of visual packaging (and web presence) for the new album.

ps – in full disclosure, not only are these guys a client, but I make a teensy-weensy amount of money on each album purchased through their websites since they use Backstage for their online store. More importantly: the band makes a lot more money if you buy directly from them rather than through iTunes or Amazon etc.

Parkour Motion Reel

by Serene Teh

Parkour is awesome. Stop motion is awesome. Put the two together…

Amazingly, Serene Teh illustrated each frame with pen and put it together “flip-book” style.

This guy’s name isn’t even on his Flickr profile, but I’ve fallen in love with his hand-drawn typography and mark design. Excellent stuff. There’s some good illustration in there too.

Blogoliolio

Illustrator Ben Newman has a fun, colorful style and he shares a lot of his work on his blog. I especially love his character development.

Part 1

The Ship and The Sea Artwork

My friends, The Autumn Film recently released their latest full-length album, The Ship and The Sea. I had the honor of putting together all of visual packaging (and web presence) for the new album.

This image is part of the packaging, but you’re only seeing half of it. I’ll post the other half at a later date.

The band is streaming the entire album from theshipandthesea.com this week, so be sure to check it out.

Gorgeous.

Jez Burrows

I’d seen the Jack Kerouac cover before and loved it, but the rest of Jez Burrows’ work is just as fantastic.

Jessica Hische

Hand-drawn typography.

I’ve heard Jessica Hische’s name before, but today was the first time I actually checked out her work. Holy gorgeous! She creates some amazing illustrations and, especially, hand-drawn typography. It’s a skill I really wish I had.

I don’t know any of the details behind this info-graphic, but it’s really fun. Click through to the original post for a larger version.

Mike Krol

I’m having trouble finding anything in Mike Krol’s varied portfolio that I’m not totally in love with.

My apologies to whoever tipped me off to him, I can’t remember and credit you…

Gauss Lamps

Packaging Design

My love affair with packaging design continues. These high-contrast Gauss Lamps designs are amazing—especially the sides that illustrate the bulb inside the package out of light particles.

Skinny Ships

Graphic Design by Richard Perez

So much excellent work by Richard Perez (Skinny Ships) that I had trouble picking what to highlight. I love all of his varied style and use of shapes & textures. Be sure to click through to the Posters, Illustrations, and Typography sections in addition to Projects.

Jonatan Castro from Midtone Design does some gorgeous and highly-detailed icon and 3D illustration work, with a beautiful portfolio site too. I wish there was more to look at.

NOPATTERN

The Portfolio of Chuck Anderson

I’m not entirely sure how I found Chuck Anderson’s site, but I’m glad I did. His work has great style and challenges me to think differently about mine.

IMAKETHINGS

aka Andrew Groves

Andrew Groves calls himself, “an illustrator, artist, maker of small things and creator of beasts.” Lately, for some reason, I’m really enjoying people who can create/illustrate characters.

Delicious Design League

Again, with the concert posters.

I’m on a concert poster kick lately. I would love to design some of these for silkscreen or letterpress prints. Anyway, I found this bunch from Delicious Design League through Yewknee’s site. They’re varied in style and tone, but all excellent. I really like the Fleet Foxes one (featured above).

100ft of joy and failure

John Tenjack’s Sketchbook.

Drawn over 2 years, each 100ft section continues the story from the last section. Incredibly imaginative.

Justin David Cox

Concert Posters

I love it when I see a designer carry through a style across many different projects. I’m not sure why – maybe just because my own design work seems so all over the place. In particular, I also really like the color and simplicity in these posters by Justin David Cox.
